O4D 2013 in Providence / September 14 & 15
Island Moving Co. (IMC) presents thier sixth biennial site-specific festival, Open for Dancing (O4D 2013). This year, with help from the National Endowment for the Arts, we're taking Open for Dancing on the road. Tom Pearson of Third Rail Projects in New York will choreograph a site-specific work for the fabulous post-industrial space of The Steel Yard, in Providence, RI. Pearson will be collaborating with Bob Rizzo, an O4D veteran and artist, Anna Shapiro and Monica Shinn to create a new work with two Third Rail Projects dancers, Island Moving Co. dancers and the adventurous "Yardies."
O4D 2013 in Newport / September 18 - 22
The five day festival pairs choreographers with collaborating artists to create site-specific works for Newport's stunning landscapes. This year, Choreographers John-Mark Owen, Yanira Castro and Deborah Lohse (all from New York) have chosen the lovely sites of the Opera House, the Meditation Labyrinth at Salve Regina's McKillop Library and the Gray Craig Estate. Each dance will be unique and each dance is made up of a "company" of Island Moving Co. dancers working with members of the community.
Open for Dancing is sponsored by William Vareika Fine Arts, Susan Ruf and Michael Walsh, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
